Department of Technology and Information Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Technical Specialist will participate in the development, implementation and post-implementation support of ERP software.

Primary responsibilities include the ability to identify and solve technical issues, accommodate any new legal or policy changes with a minimum of customization, implement additional functionality as new modules are approved.

Position will be responsible for providing programming support in all modules, writing organizational data interfaces, creating adhoc reports, analyzing and applying vendor patches and fixes, tuning programs to enhance performance.


Approximate % of Time
Analyze new requirements thoroughly to determine potential impact on existing functionality. 20%

Write program code where Delaware-specific requirements are applicable. 5%

Create test cases for unit & system test and perform successful test scenarios. 20%

Write ad hoc queries and reports on an as-needed basis. 20%

Analyze and apply vendor updates and fixes to existing software, ensuring there are no negative impacts on existing functionality. 15%

Provide technical expertise for the comparison of database environments, debugging and migration of objects. 10%

Communicate effectively with other teams and functional users when solving critical issues. 5%

Follow methodology standards for design, coding, testing and implementation. 5%

I. Education
Bachelor degree preferred, with emphasis on Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Database Management or related field.
Formal training on ERP-specific languages, databases, utilities.
Technical certification not necessary, but beneficial.

II. Experience
Minimum 4 years of technical experience with public sector software.
Candidate must have participated in a major implementation of ERP software.
Candidate must have a thorough working knowledge of the integration of all modules to be implemented or supported.

III. Supervision Received
Candidate must be able to follow design specifications or detailed instructions with minimal supervision.
Candidate is encouraged to generate new ideas or efficient ways to solve system requirements.

IV. Supervision Given
Position does not supervise or instruct; however, it is expected that candidate will share experience and ideas with other team members when questions arise or assistance is needed in solving critical issues.

V. Complexity and Scope
Candidate must apply strong analytical skills (daily) as problems arise and new requirements are approved.
Candidate must have the technical expertise to understand and apply ERP integrated software business practices to Delaware business processes.
Candidate may become involved in writing conversion programs or interface programs to other systems and modules.

VI. Accountability
Candidate is accountable for producing reliable program code, comprehensive unit and system testing.
Candidate reports to the Senior Project Team Leader.

VII. Contacts
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and team leader.
Ability to participate successfully in system testing with end-users.
Ability to disseminate information as needed when working with vendor technical support personnel.

VIII. Information Management
Candidate must have in-depth working knowledge of ERP language (People Code, ABAP, etc).
Candidate must be proficient in database management.

IX. Work environment
Position requires a significant degree of mental concentration.
